2" Lift kit
I have a lift kit to put on my Freelander 1999, I still have 15" alloys on with AT tyres. I am not too bothered about changing the wheels to 16" just yet, will the inner wings still need cutting when the lift kit is put on with 15" wheels?

no cutting required at all. Apart all terrains on 16" id personally stick with ur 15" much larger choice of tyres mud or all terrains etc. do a little shopping for 15" and 16" tyres you'll.
215/80/15 are max im pretty sure.

Re: 2" Lift kit
yes the inner wings will need cutting , so that the trackrods dont fowl on the bodywork
if you look into the inner wings you will see a square hole approx 4 or 5 inchs square and the track rod passes straight thro the centre of said hole
when you fit a liftkit obviously the trackrod will sit 2 inchs lower in the hole, when you get cross axled (or jack up) the trackrod will hit the bottom edge of the hole (especially when the steering is on lock)
to fix it you will have to cut and weld the bottom edges,(there is a seam approx 1/2 high) remove the seam and reweld so the lower edge of the hole is flat
i have fitted 3 lift kits and done this to all 3
